I saw this tiny Queen Anne’s Lace plant this week, and it made me think about that common phrase “bloom where you are planted”.  If you are not familiar with these plants, they are typically 3’+ in height, and the flowers are 3-5″ across.  This is part of the carrot family, so it sends a primary root deep into the soil.

But here, in a driveway, it had found itself sprouted in the seam in cement.  It had maybe 1/4″ of depth.  And there it was – a  tiny specimen maybe 3″ tall with perfectly formed flowers less than 1″ across.

It was making the most out of what it had.  It was blooming gloriously in all its ability.

What do you see in this illustration?   Most of us are not in perfect environments.  We likely wouldn’t even know what to do or how to act in a perfect environment!  But we have something to give the world, like this little plant.  We can be all we can possibly be and hold our heads up high, or we can complain that the conditions aren’t good enough and wither and collapse, feeling justified in doing so.

It’s all a matter of perspective.  The way we see things drastically changes our reality.  Let’s talk about it.
